Plou is a collaborative practice for spatial design, art and social innovation.

Plou is interested in how people relate to the places they inhabit, how communities take shape, and how we might organise and built our shared environments differently.

Plou practice moves between architecture, art and social design. Through games, models, installations and collective experiments, we explore ways of bringing people together to question existing conditions and imagine other possibilities. Plou is particularly drawn to the relationships between spatial transformation, commoning, ecology and the ways we produce, share and care for the spaces and resources around us.

The diversity of our work is made possible through a network of kindred practices, collaborators and institutions. We see PLOU not as an isolated entity, but as one part of a larger ecosystem of people and practices working towards shared ambitions.


Those collaborating practices are The Outsiders (Art and community curators), Play the City (Urban Planners), Circular Landscapes (Landscape architects) and CASCO: art institute working for the commons, Hofschneider architects, Wageningen University, among many others.

Plou works both on commission and through self-initiated projects. We believe in taking action on urgent social, spatial and ecological questions, including those that fall outside the scope of established commissions or market-driven agendas.

The woman behind Plou is Txell Blanco, an architect, designer and researcher based in Amsterdam. 

After graduating with honors at the  Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam in 2013, she co-founded the art collective “The Outsiders”.

“I founded PLOU as my independent design practice and The Outsiders as an art collective exploring alternative relationships between people, place and the living environment. I also work with other designers, artists, researchers and organisations, contributing to projects with the same goals: designing for more sustainable ways of living.”
